Singer/Songwriter/Storyteller
“Everything in life happens the way it is supposed to happen, and that is a hard pill to swallow when things don't quite go your way. But, my God is not going to give you a talent he doesn't want you to use, so hone your skills, never give up, and don't make excuses. Life is like the game of baseball. It's going to throw you some curve balls. You can stand there and strike out or figure out how to hit that curve ball from a different angle."
~Dixie Brown
About
Before she found herself opening for Willie and Waylon, Houston, Texas native, Dixie Brown (DB), discovered that she had an uncanny ability to turn stories into music. Truth is often stranger than fiction, and many of her songs are created from real-life experiences that she tactfully crafts and shares through her music. Because of these raw, often unedited but highly impactful three-ish minute musical stories, DB instinctively adds the title "storyteller" after "singer/songwriter" to her name.
However, it is her vocal and performance abilities that have helped her win TNN's daily "Be A Star" competition, Sammy Awards in Houston, perform with singer and actor Ben Vereen at TPAC, and numerous shows throughout Texas and Tennessee. Her rich vocals are recognizable and unique, and she brings a fresh sound to her favorite classic genre - traditional country music - although she also excels in making any song "hers" and writes and performs in many different country styles.
Young DB’s greatest influence was her dad, an accomplished singer and performer, who exposed her to a multitude of genres and artists like Sammy Davis, Jr., Chicago, The Highwaymen, Marvin Gaye, Bobbie Gentry, Dolly Parton, The Carpenters, Charley Pride, and more. With a grandpa and great granddaddy being Baptist ministers, she also grew up singing in church with her family. But it was occasionally joining her dad on stage with his band to cut a rug that sealed the deal of performing for her.
At thirteen years old DB interviewed her next-door neighbor, a concert promoter, for her school paper, who told her not to let anyone tell her "no." He let her borrow his Kenny Rogers and ZZ Top gold records for her assignment. At that moment, she knew she would eventually have to move to the mecca of country music – Nashville to launch her career.

Fast forward, she packed her bags, her dreams, her self-penned songs, her husband, a lot of courage and grit, and moved to East Tennessee where she sang in a Southern rock band throughout the Tri-Cities. Not long after that, she relocated to Nashville, where she currently resides.
Joe, her husband, once told her when it comes to music and doing what she loves, she should never give up, and she should "fight like the old boxer, Dixie Brown." It was then that Joe started calling her Dixie Brown. Later that day, she wrote the song "Dixie Brown" in about thirty minutes. She submitted the song to Jeffrey Steele’s songwriting bootcamp and was one out of twelve people chosen to attend the bootcamp taught by the multi-award-winning songwriter, Jeffrey Steele.
From Johnnie High's Country Music Revue, Jim's Honky Tonk, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Hideout stage, Houston Sammy Awards, Nashville Sound, the Hitchin’ Post, Bluebird Café, Listening Room, 3rd & Lindsley, to so much more in between, DB has been performing all of her life.
DB wrote and recently recorded a song called “Cali James,” which is her sequel to Bobbie Gentry’s “Fancy.” “Cali James” is “Fancy’s” little sister. She also recorded a Christmas duet called "How Do I Explain Holy," written by Sherri Gough, with her talented brother, John.
DB has honed her crafts of singing, songwriting, and storytelling, and she believes gifts from God should be shared with the world.
